About the Album: 1st Take
Liner Notes
Some songs come from a place you can’t fake. “Ida” by Dexter Danos is one of those.
When Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana in 2021, both Dexter and I rode out the storm right there on the bayou. We saw the wind, the water, the darkness, and the aftermath with our own eyes. The song isn’t just about a hurricane — it’s about what it feels like to stand your ground, hold on through the storm, and rebuild afterward.
“Ida” captures a piece of that experience. It’s a reminder of the strength of the bayou and the people who call it home.

Lyrics
Ida
Woke up to the wind howlin’ like a train
Sky was black as midnight even though the mornin’ came
Packed up we could carry left the rest behind
Prayin’ to the gods please let my roof survive
Well the wind took the walls and the water took the floor
That house we built with love don’t stand there anymore
My heart keeps beatin’ and I’m still breathin’ somehow
But Ida took my house but she ain’t bringin’ me down
Cypress trees bent over like they’re prayin’ for their loss
The bayous turned to oceans the streets were covered in moss
Photos on the mantle washed out to sea
But I still got them in my memory that’s where they’re always be
Well the wind took the walls and the water took the floor
That house we built with love don’t stand there anymore
My heart keeps beatin’ and I’m still breathin’ somehow
But Ida took my house but she ain’t bringin’ me down
I’ll build a new boards and I’ll raise new beams hold on tighter to my dreams
You could take the wood the nails and the ground
But you never take my roots from this little bayou town
Well the wind took the walls and the water took the floor
That house we built with love don’t stand there anymore
My heart keeps beatin’ and I’m still breathin’ somehow
But Ida took my house but she ain’t bringin’ me down
Nah she ain’t bringin’ me down
The wind took the walls the water took the floors
That house we built with love don’t stand there anymore
My heart keeps beatin’ and I’m still breathin’ somehow
Ida took my house but she ain’t bringing me down.
